I love the way these little crochet butterflies turn out. They are so much fun to make. They’re a good way to use up leftover yarn. If you’re like me, then I’m sure you may have leftover stashes of yarn in every nook and cranny of your home (could it be just me?). These little wonders are perfect to help you use up that yarn. Not to mention that kids love them. Ok…so let’s get started and get in the zone.
Materials needed:
- Yarn of your choice
- Crochet hook
- Darning needle
- Scissors
- Pipe Cleaners Chenille Stems
Row 1
Start with a magic circle, chain 3, double crochet into the magic circle and chain 2.
Repeat 7 times (2 double crochet, chain 2), slip stitch into 3rd chain at the beginning of row.
Slip stitch your way into the chain-2 space.
Row 2
Chain 3 (this will equal a double crochet), 2 double crochets, chain 2, double crochet 3x into the same chain-2 space from row 1.
Repeat for the next 7 chain-2 spaces. Slip stitch your way to the chain-2 space, cut the yarn and fasten.
Row 3
Get your second color yarn for the third row and attach it.
The way that I like to do it is as follows:
make a slip knot with your second yarn. Detach your hook and insert it into the chain space of the second row you just worked on. Insert the hook into the worked slip knot you just made and pass it through.
Chain 3, work 7 double crochets into the same chain-2 space (total of 8 double crochets).
Skip the next three double crochets and Single crochet
Repeat going all the way around. At the end of the row, slip stitch into the 3rd chain from beginning of row. Cut and hide the tail with a darning needle.
Fold your work with the pretty side facing out.
To finish your project, you can use pipe cleaners chenille stems which come in a variety of colors. I got mine at my local craft store and twisted it at the middle to tie around the butterfly.
I hope you enjoy making these beautiful little crochet butterflies. These are so cute to put in a girls room. You can glue a clothes pin in the back to hang anywhere or even place magnets in the back and place on your fridge. Go ahead and have fun using up all those scraps of yarn. Have fun mixing up different colors.
Let me know how you enjoy using up all of your scrap leftover yarn. I’d love to know.
Adios,
Banessa
